What did your path into construction look like?
I’ve had a very linear construction path. I started in project management and feel in love with it. I enjoyed the fast-paced world and seeing a plan come together in real life. Now I am the Operations Manager for Canada responsible for all project execution.
What do you think are some hurdles – real or perceived – that women face in construction? What advice do you have for young women joining the construction industry?
I think it’s best to not perceive that there are any hurdles specific to women. If you do not perceive they are there, you will not let them stop you. One of the most common question women ask me is how I got to where I am in my career. The reality is very simple. Focused hard work. I do not believe being a woman neither hindered nor helped me. I believe this perception has been key in my success as a woman in construction.
What is the biggest change you have seen since you started?
There are a lot more women coming up in construction, which is great to see! I have high hopes for the up and coming generation.
