King Milling Company sits on the west bank of the Flat River in picturesque downtown Lowell, Michigan. Since their founding in 1890, King Milling has increased its capacity from 39,000 pounds of flour per day (390 cwt) is roughly 800,000 pounds per day (8,000 cwt). In addition, King Milling has added a whole wheat mill which itself produces 500,000 pounds of whole-wheat products per year.
Project Features
- Flour Mill Expansion – “B” Mill:
- 5,000 CWT slipformed mill with wheat tempering bins, including cleaning, milling and material handling equipment installation.
- Steel tank storage for flour and truck loadout area.
- Storage Expansion:
- Two 26’ diameter x 102’ tall slipformed concrete storage bins.
- Truck loadout system with an 11’ x 90’ truck scale.
- One 19’ x 44’ loadout extension building.
- Flour Mill Expansion – “D” Mill:
- 7,500 CWT slipformed mill with wheat tempering bins, including cleaning, milling and material handling equipment installation.
- Slipformed loadout structure with eight steel storage bins.
The new “D” mill facility, which King Milling describes as “the country’s most modern flour mill,” features the latest in energy-efficient design. The fully insulated building uses all LED lighting, premium-efficient motors and a heat recovery system in which process heat is used to preheat intake air. This sustainable design reduces fossil fuel use when operating in colder temperatures.
